My Daily Skincare Routine

One of the most important things to help achieve a skin-clearing situation is routine! Ensuring that as many alterative, health-boosting activities as possible are done on a daily basis should quicken the healing process.

SUMMER '23 UPDATE: As I have almost totally healed, my routine is less intense than how it started out. After the original one- the best for optimum recovery- I have included a new, abridged version.

A typical day for me now looks like this:

MORNING

As soon as I get up, I take an L-Glutamine supplement. I take it on an empty stomach as it's best absorbed by the body this way. I also take a tablespoon of Probiotic, a cup of Skin Purity Tea (I use an tea infuser teapot for this) and Milk Thistle Tincture.

A blue bottle of L-Glutamine supplements, a brown glass bottle of Biotic, a small glass bottle with syringe lid containing Milk Thistle Tincture, and a cardboard cylinder of Skin Purity Tea, all standing on a white table mat with black polka dots. In the background, a metal dining chair, and a blue poster.

Water intake is important- ideally 2 litres a day! I fill up my bottle with filtered water (using a jug) and start chugging.

After this it's straight into the shower, where I wash with a Dead Sea Salt Scrub (the recipe for which I got from Hanna Sillitoe's Radiant book) and use paraben-free shampoo and conditioner. Though I used to love for the water to be scalding hot, this isn't good for your skin. To freshen up sweat-prone areas, I use a plant-based body wash. I also have Tea Tree & Turmeric as well as Olive Oil soap handy. On a shave day, I use my Fragrance Free Shave Bar in place of foam/gel. I have purchased a Braun Series 5 which I use gently against my face. When shaving, a foil shaver is said to be less likely to cause irritation than rotary ones. The same applies to single-blade over multi-blade. Finding a device that ticks both boxes might be tricky: while the Braun is good, I want to try a Philips OneBlade next.

No hair dryer for me- I allow it to air-dry! Meanwhile, I deodorise with a Natural, Unscented Stick Deodorant. After using a 100% cotton towel to dry off, I apply pure Aloe Vera gel to my body, and Vitamin D Face Cream.

Aftershaves are known for their high alcohol content. Instead, I use a natural, wax-based cologne.

Three small white metal tins resting on a wooden table. The top one’s lid is half-off, revealing cream-coloured wax cologne. On the lids, black and white text reading: “Solid Source Solid Cologne”.

For breakfast, I have a big bowl of homemade granola with plenty of nuts, seeds and dried fruit in it. I use plant-based milk (my go-to choices are almond, hazelnut and oat) to avoid dairy, which is a food group that can have inflammatory effects.

Once my hair is dry, I apply scalp oil.

LUNCH TIME

I take the rest of my supplements. I also make a fruit juice from scratch, throwing 40 blueberries, 2 apples, 2 celery sticks, 1 beetroot, a chunk of lemon and a thumb of ginger into my juicer. A big, quick and easy dose of antioxidants, vitamins and nutrients vitamins in a small glass- excellent! Blueberries are a superfood; I first heard of their potential psoriasis-combatting effects in a forum post. Even though this may not yet be 100% proven, consuming them everyday can only do us good!

An open palm holding ten different supplements: three small round white pills, two thin white capsules, two large white pills, one round black softgels, and two oval-shaped, orange-transparent pills. On the wrist, a rainbow Pride band. In the background, a grey floor and white kitchen cupboards.

I apply Colloidal Oat Cream all over, and Skin Salvation to my face.

Stood up on a cream-coloured carpet, a clear pot with a white lid containing an olive-coloured ointment. On it, white text reading: “Balmonds Skin Salvation”. Behind it, a white pump dispenser with a pale-yellow label reading: “AproDerm Colloidal Oat Cream”. Further text reads: “A PARAFFIN-FREE DAILY MOISTURISER & SOAP SUBSTITUTE. Suitable for Eczema, Psoriasis & other Dry Skin Conditions. SOOTHES, HYDRATES & RESTORES. Suitable From Birth. Parabens, SLS, Benzyl Alcohol, Fragrance, Colour Free”. In the background, some kitchen cupboard doors.

TEA TIME

I have my second dose of Milk Thistle Tincture. The aforementioned Radiant book provides a great toolkit for resetting your diet, which needs to be high in leafy greens, certain fruits and nuts, and low in the dreaded nightshade foods! To keep water interesting, I use Cold Water Infusions that come in a variety of flavours.

EVENING

I have a green tea with a teaspoon of Manuka Honey.

When playing sport, I drink coconut water rather than sugary energy drinks.

NIGHT

Just before bed, I spray some natural pillow mist. I melt coconut oil and mix in Turmeric Essential Oil. I rub this all over my body before getting some sleep- also an important factor for healing!
